Bars and cafés with chess in Madrid 4

More about this list

Madrid has two bars with fresh chess traces. Gambit Café, in Malasaña, opened as a chess café where you pay a small fee and play for as long as you like, with tournaments, simultaneous games and talks on its programme. Pub&Go in La Latina has hosted a blitz tournament billed as bar chess.

Two older names are kept with a warning. The El Tren pub in Argüelles and the café of the Cine Doré, the Filmoteca's cinema, are mentioned for chess only in older press and tourist pages, and no recent trace of a game there was found; their cards say not confirmed. Bar chess moves fast, since a venue changes hands or an evening lapses, so look at the date on the tile and check the bar's own channels before you cross the city for a game.
